DVR Recorded more episodes than i specified

I am not sure why the DVR recorded almost 3 seasons-worth of episodes, but it did. I had it set up to record Below Deck Mediterranean on channel 685 and only up to 5 espisodes.  The DVR then recorded 3 seasons-worth and way more than 5 episodes.  Why does it ignore that setting??  This is an older DVR, but why is it not paying attention to the settings?? Because of this, i lose other shows.  I had it set to first run and repeats so maybe that causes it to ignore up to 5 episodes?
