DVR shows deleted and won't set up new recordings

With the new update to my set top box I am unable to set up for recordings by pressing the dvr button 2x as the directions state. What was wrong w the old way of recording shows???? Why mess w something that works. Also all of my already scheduled shows were deleted as well!
