Disable channels that I did not subscribe to during channel surfing

Hi!

Searched the forum for an answer and did find this:

"There are two distinct Mode settings you can change: one for the Info Bar (this controls the channels it will flip through when you use the Channel Up/Down buttons) and one for the Guide (this controls which channels are made visible in the various Guide screens.) Both Mode settings can be changed independently of each other.

To change the Mode for the Info Bar, press the right arrow button while watching live TV. The Mode menu will appear. Once you've selected a mode, using the Channel Up/Down buttons will only flip to channels that fit the Mode you selected. You can disable the Mode for the Info Bar by pressing C (hence the "Press C to disable Modes") message."

When I press the arrow up button I do not get a mode menu. I do get yet another iteration of the channel guide showing on the right side of the screen. There are options for that, but nothing that suggests to limit channels to subscribed channels only.

I did manage to get the settings right for the guide (when pressing the Guide button), so that is all set, but that did not have any impact on the Channel + / - buttons.

Any advice for this?

It seems like you might have tried the wrong button. The right arrow button works as described.  But you have to be forgiving on terminology sometimes. The menu you will get is "Genres & Filters" not modes.

I think you can access that from inside the menu easier.

Click menu>settings>television.

there are two settings there.   MODES and you want to make sure it says enabled. and also at the bottom of the same menu is last viewed guide state, and you want to enable that as well.

then when you go back to your menu, you can click on the options button on your remote, and select subscribed channels only.,

Yes, that applies to the guide, but not the channel buttons. Also, there are way more than two settings for Television, but none of them is called Modes. Cat Sad

Set up a favorites list for you subscribed channels and use that.  You can set both the channel up/down function and the guide to that favorite (separately as you've discovered).

Oh they must have updated the guide a bit,  I hadn't noticed it changed.

There is no setting for Genres & Filters comparable to the Guide's Last Viewed Guide State setting. Each time you turn on the STB, it will return the G&F setting to All Channels, Favorites 1 or Favorites 2 (whichever of these 3 were selected last before the STB was turned off). This is very irritating to many customers who assume that once they set it to Subscribed channels it will stay that way.

Do you mean just hitting the STB button to turn it off and on? Or by power restting?

No real reason to turn the box off.

It doesn't use any less power.
