Can the the front display of time and channel be dimmed or turned off. My bedroom box can be quite distracting when the lights are turned off for bedtime ?

I guess you are referring to the 7232 DVR. The answer is no, there is no way to dim or turn off the display, other than pulling the power plug. I know that some people have taped some dark film over it to dim it, maybe you can try that for now.
I know that Verizon has received complaints and requests for the ability to dim or turn off the display. Supposedly they plan to offer some form of dimming control in the future. They have not announced any time frame that I know of, and since there is still one more area of the country that Verizon needs to distribute 1.9 of the IMG to, I suspect it is going to be a while.
Sorry.....

I ended up going to Staples and bought a tinted document folder, cut out a small piece, and glued it over the very bright display. It's now a nice muted blue. I did the same with a small piece of red document folder for the record light, so it's now a muted red. Easy.
You should be able to turn off the display in the Menu / Settings / Set-top Box / Standby Front Display. Set it to OFF. When you turn off the DVR or STB the display will also turn off. Hope this helps.
That worked (although menu was slightly different). Thanks!
