Does the Settop box need to use the router(wireless) to get the guide or does it use the coax?

My TV is NOT wireless and uses a FIOS Settop box to get service.  Does the Settop box need to use the router(wireless) to get the guide or does it use the coax from the settop box?

The set-top box get the guide info from the coax via MoCA. The exception being the new 4100 mini which can connect by wifi. What set-top box do you have and does the router's LAN coax light lit up?
