Prior to moving to Verizon from Comcast, I asked the rep if I could download my dvr shows and was told yes. Now that I am a customer, I find out that is not true. Anyone have insight into this? Why is there a download tab in the app?

I believe you can download shows/movies that have been purchased.
But not content that has been recorded on DVR.
anyone?

thanks.. I wish they would tell their sales people that.
I purchased a Hauppauge HD Homerun on Ebay and a cablecard so I can record shows to my laptop computer. I then download and transfer them to my tablet to watch them away from home without internet connection. This is the cheapest way. You can buy a Tivo DVR for about $300 to do the same thing but then Tivo charges a $12.99 monthly fee. The first way, there is no monthly fee unless you choose to rent the cablecard from Fios but you can buy them to avoid the monthly fee.
