Exspansion eSATA HD for Motorola QIP 7216

I had an old- non "approved" HD on my DVR that died and want to replace it.  The recommended units seem expensive for what they provide so I purchased a Fantom 3TB eSATA HD [Fantom Drives 3TB GForce3 USB 3.0/eSATA Aluminum External Hard Drive (GF3B3000EU)]. When I hook it up to the DVR and follow the procedure to connect it, the DVR reboots and reboots and reboots........ turning the external drive on and off and never recognizing it.  I thought it might be due to the formatting or partition size on the new hard drive (which works fine via USB 3.0 on my Windows 10 computer) so I tried various schemes of NTSB vs exFAT and naming vs not naming the partitions and drive partition size.  I keep having the same issue.  Help, please. (....Or, should I just return the drive and buy the smaller more expensive WD drive?)

While I am far from an expert, I have read in other forums that the Software cannot handle any eSATA with over 2TB and even with 2TB it is treated as if it only has 1TB.

I appreciate the comment, especially in light of Verizon's statement:

"There are no minimum or maximum storage limits for FiOS TV. However, Verizon recommends the following model types:"

I tied making only one active partition, smaller that 1TB (999999MB). still no luck.

The problem is that VZ uses a proprietary format and I suspect your partition is ignored.  Attaching a new external drive requires the DVR to format it before it can be used.

Does this mean that there is something I can/should do with the drive, or, should I return it and get one of the recommended drives (or is there another option to consider?)?

As for Kudos, I acknowledge that, but I'm not there yet.

Honestly I don't know the answer.  I have been using a WD MY BOOK AV 1Tb since VZ enabled eSATA.  My guess would be to get a maximum 2Tb eSATA drive that does not have a sleep mode (or that can be disabled) since the WD DVR extender drives appear to be no longer available (these are the drives that show up on the "recommended" list - never updated from the original options).

Anyone else have a drive recommendation?

Not totally the answer I was hoping for, but I do appreciate the comments. Thanks. I'd still love to hear other solutions as the WD drives are significantly more expensive for the capacity.
