I have a newly purchased fios one mini box. Can this mini box connect to a different wifi network? Example is that I have a seperate access point on my second floor that would provide better connection but the box keeps trying to connect to my 1st floor router.

It has to connect to the Fios router if you are connecting wirelessly. It connects to a hidden SSID issued by the Fios router. You can connect wired with ethernet as long as the Fios router is in the same network. You can also wire it to an extender which is then wirelessly connected to your network.
