Then go back to Comcast if it bothers you that much. Problem solved. Oh, except for the fact that then you'll have Comcast.

Let me rephrase, has anyone else found an actual solution (as in got it fixed) not a workaround to the obvious problem with the guide?  It is set to subscribe mode which infers it is subscribed channels only.  It still shows numerous channels that try to get you to subscribe which means it is not in subscribe mode.  Has anyone got Verizon to "fix" this?  Hopefully there are some verizon technical experts reviewing these boards.

Also, do the smaller boxes really have no way of displaying even a simple guide?

This is a peer to peer support forum.  Your peers have already advised that it is not currently possible to accomplish what you want without a "workaround".
