HD Set Top Box Rental

Is there a way to remove the depency on a set top box? I don't see the need or the value it provides. I currently pay about $12.00 per month for the box. I would rather spend the $240.00 per year on something that bring more value to me.

If you are an HD TV you can plug the line in to the back of the TV like the old analog cable days. But, you would only get locals. I think it costs like $12 a month or something.

That's only true if your TV has a QAM tuner.  If it doesn't, you need a STB, DVR, or digital adapter.  With the digital adapter, you only get SD programming.
