Hockey game cut-off by FIOS commercial?

Today I experienced the Devils - Bruins game being cut off by FIOS commercials in the middle of the match on MSG+... there was no stoppage of play in the match.

Does FIOS really cut off programming to show commercials?

I mean we already pay a lot of money to see the programming. Do we also have to accept being cut off and miss parts of our favorite sports matches?

I've had that happen here a couple years ago on CSN Washington. From what I learned since then, it was a signal sent by the channel to trigger a local commercial. Send MSG an e-mail to report this via http://www.msg.com/contact-us

Even though we know they simply don't want to provide Verizon the feed, sending this signal is a violation of their carriage agreement, and they will make the appropriate corrections. I never saw this from CSN-W after I told them about it.

Thanks for this explanation, which seems valid but doesn't fully explain things.  For one thing, this has been going on for awhile now.  It happened a handful of times last season during Devils games and this is at least the second time this season, with last night's game having 3 separate interrruptions.

While it's definitely some sort of external trigger starting these local ads, I find it hard to believe that a simple e-mail to MSG is going to stop them, if they're indeed behind this.  Like you accurately stated, there's no love lost between the two parties, which is why we continue to suffer with the standard def feed.  I didn't think it could get any worse than that; now I know I was wrong.

I sent something to MSG last night after calling Verizon's polite-but-clueless tech support number, so we'll see if anything changes.  An e-mail to Verizon was similarly dismissed ("call tech support"), not really suprising but sad nonetheless.  As sinz said, for what we pay for this service, it's shameful.

Caps09 - Thank you for the explaination.

This happened 3 times again in tonights game - twice during powerplay!!! Eventhough this is triggered by an external feed, I think it is a disgrace that FIOS keeps letting this happen. I pay my bill to watch hockey - not to watch commercials for a service I already purchased!

Would like to hear from Verizon what they are going to do about it. Are there ever any Verizon personal active on this forum?

Yeah, this is really getting old.  And I'm not convinced this is of MSG's doing, either.  These are LOCAL commercials being interjected when they shouldn't be, and they're coming at regular intervals.  Twice now (tonight and two nights ago) it happened at 7:38pm, and the 9:07pm screw-up also came at a time when scheduled ads usually run.

In a normal broadcast on most channels, you can see when Verizion overlays its local ads if you pay close attention.  The channel's normal ad will briefly start, then the Verizon ad will cut in.  During these hockey games, it seems to be out of sync.  Who's responsible and why it's happening is the $1M question.

So, how about it, Verizon?  What's the problem and when will you fix it?  Between this and the new channel guide, you're really not going in the right direction.  I won't put up with this much longer, and I have a feeling I'm not alone.
