How to receive cable service

I had to call customer service 3 times today and nobody seems to want to help. It seems to be a game of transfer to next guy. I'm getting close to jumping off of the cable bam wagon and going total internet. I'm my eyes you pay a premium for cable so that you receive service and to-date I have not experienced a reason to pay for lack-luster service.
