I just got installed the Fios TV service but the tech that did it used the composite video cables even I got a HDTV, question: Does the HDMI is included with the equipment or I have to buy it on my own.
Yeah, that doesn't sound like a good experience. I would definitely call in and see if someone could fix that for you. I don't know why he would have kept the cable -- I'm pretty sure he has plenty in the truck and they are only a few bucks online lol.
But yeah, they supplied me new hdmi cables and I took my old ones and put them away as spares.

No, he used the composite cables; it's my impression that he kept the DHMI cable for him...this is the worst service ever had, he didn't even left the welcome kit or any other paper, did the service like in 30 min and took off because he was in a hurry said.
No offense is intended, but are you certain abobut the difference between COMPOSITE and COMPONENT cables?
If he really used COMPOSITE, then it would have been a single RCA cable (Yellow jack on the STB and TV). This is indeed bad as it woul never pass any HD signal. But if he used COMPONENT, it would be THREE RCA cables (Red, Green, and Blue jacks) and it can indeed pass the 1080i HD signals the STB outputs.
When I was installed the STB's had not cables except power. The installer looked at what I had, whet to his truck where he had stock of all the different cable types. I even asked (and received) an extra HDMI cable for when I move my DVR from an analog TV to a LCD.

Why are people stuck on HDMI cables for the STB. HDMI gives off the same picture quality as a component cable.
I beg to differ. The source transmission is digital as is HDMI - no interpolation of the signal required. Component requires the STB to convert to analog and then the display to convert it back to digital (assuming flat panel display and not a CRT). Each conversion can cause loss of resolution and artifacts to be introduced. Many feel that the component picture is softer, a possible side effect of the multiple conversions.
That being said, if you can't see the difference then it really doesn't matter
I agree with "keyboards". There is a difference is PQ. The component cables provide a softer PQ, however, I prefer adjusting the PQ while using the HDMI connection to match that of the component video instead of using the component cables. You can obtain the same PQ as displayed by using component cables with a little adjusting. The bottom line is that you are supposed to have the ability to use both connection options: HDMI and Component. However, Verizon feels that customers would accept connection via the component cables since they both push 1080i. Consequently, the workaround was unacceptable to me. If the STB has a HDMI port, I expect to have the option to use it. It is unfortunate that the QIP 7xxx STB and DVR doesn't support HDMI connectivity with major brands of 1080p televisions. It is even a greater tragedy that Verizon will not issue a date as to when the firmware patch for the 7xxx STB and DVR will push to resolve this issue. I had Verizon replace my QIP 7xxx with a QIP 6416 to have the ability to use HDMI connections. It took 2 weeks, a great tier one support rep and a lot of patience to finally view it from my perspective. Afterall, I am the customer and satisfaction should drive the solution.
