Hopefully someone at Verizon corporate will see this...
I live on a border town in Southern Massachusetts. Technically, I am in the RI market. FiOS does not offer the Boston affiliate of FOX (WFXT). My only option is the RI affiliate. This is fine for network programming, but we prefer our Boston affiliate for news and local information (such as politics. We have no interest in RI news).
I have been given some answer about where the local FiOS dispatch is located. However, I get both Boston and Providence market affilates for PBS, ABC, CBS, and NBC, in both standard and HD. So why can't my town get the Boston affilate of FOX? I know that the next town over gets WFXT with FIOS.
We switched from Comcast. Comcast offered both affiliates, although the Boston affiliate was not offered in HD. Thus, I know it CAN be done.. just wondering why it ISN'T done.
your not likely to get any offical response from Verizon here as they do not monitor these boards.
But it is likely to be where the Verizon VHO is locatated. It is likely on the wrong side of some line and therefore they are unable to carry that channel. While Comcast probably had their office on the other side of the line allowing you to get that channel.
OR
Fox just will not sign an agreement to let them carry it. FOX has been fighting with most Cable companies for the last few years making it difficult for the cable companies to carry FOX at all. Comcast just had a big fight with FOX and didnt carry any FOX channels for nearly 3 weeks about 6 weeks ago.
The Fox affiliate in Providence (which is actually owned by the Providence CBS affiliate) has the right granted by the FCC to block another affiliate in an adjacent market (i.e. WFXT in Boston) from their home market, which they exercised. There's nothing Verizon can do about it; it's Fox Providence's legal right.
