Probably slim to none and slim is out of town.  There was a campaign on these boards a year or so ago to get NASA TV - SD or HD - (since it is basically free) with a ton of responses in favor and as you can see by the channel lineup it went nowhere.

ratings, ratings, ratings!!!!!

even though it's free - and despite popular opinion, I don't think it gets much in the way of ratings as opposed to other HD channels.  So I don't think it's a priority because of that.    But you can always get a roku player for pretty cheap, and it opens up your netflix and hulu plus and amazon VOD as well as NASA TV for your TV.

Well, ratings are low for FSC...but it was just added. (And Fox channels are  expensive.)

FSC Ratings -  Month-to-month comparisons from Sept. 29-Oct. 26, 2008 vs. Sept. 28-Oct. 25, 2009 demonstrate significant increases in total day viewers, English Barclays Premier League and Italian Serie A match telecasts as well as ancillary and news programming. Fox Soccer Channel demonstrated a 125% average audience increase (27,000 vs. 12,000) in total day viewers in Oct. 2009 compared to Oct. 2008, while in the men 18-49 demo the same measurement is up 200% (15,000 vs. 5,000).

granted it's not the 2011 and 2010 results, but we can see that one channel definetely is on an uptick where the other channel is not...

Wasn't trying to make a case for  which has higher numbers...just that both have low ratings. With DISH, DTV, some COMCAST areas,and now Verizon combined having tens of millions of subscribers,  27,000 - 30,000 thousand viewers are extremely low-ratings.  Heck, even 100,000 would be pitifully low.  If it were a TV show (instead of a netwrok), it would be cancelled after one episode!  Again, I'm not  trying to state that any one channel is "better" than another...both have their adherents.  Just that both are low-rated...and one of them costs much more to carry (especially since NASA is free!) 

As for NASA's ratings...it appears that it has fewer providers than FSC.  And, with the elimination of a U.S. space program, it could fall further.  Regardless, there are channels with much higher  ratings than either of these two. BBCA, for example, (with FEWER providers than FSC) can get between 1 - 2 million viewers, and costs less to carry.  Obviously,  a much higher rated channel than FSC...yet we have not seen that one added yet in HD.  Heck, Cartoon Channel is one of the top basic channels...even beating out channels like CNN in ratings.  Yet we don't see the HD channel of that added yet either.

Just making a point...that it is not ratings that determine the addition of a channel.  In the case of FSC-HD, I'm more likely to believe that it was added due to the fact that Verizon has made inroads in the Southwestern U.S....where there is a higher concentration of soccer fans than other areas of the country.

I dunno.   FSC HD gets 37 pages of replies and this nasa tv hd thread gets 5 replies total.   I don't particularly care about either station, and if I had a choice I'd rather have NASA TV as I care even less about soccer, and I love the space program, but I was just throwing out what I think may be playing a sizeable role. 

you're right though, there are other considerations, like what is the demographic, do we already have it or do we need to attract it, do we already have the NASA-philes with some of the other channels we have, are we gaining any new viewership with nasa, or would we gain viewership and retention with the FSC HD, so I am sure there is a lot that goes into that decision, I was just pointing out what seemed to be the obvious to me.

The reason this thread gets so little response is that the push for NASA TV was made over a year ago and the silence from Verizon was deafening.  Sometimes it just feels so good when you stop banging your head against the wall.

There's that...plus there was also a concentrated push from some soccer websites, posting a link to get folks to post here. I noticed that many (but not all, please understand) had a registration date that was the same date as their request!  Hopefully, the rest of us will get a channel or two soon.  (or at least, for channels not yet carried in HD, have an OnDemand HD section for BBC, CARTOON, etc.   It was done for BET, so hopefully it can be added to tide some people over.

Interesting about the soccer websites, was not aware of that, but perhaps that explains the high volume from probably really relatively few watchers....thanks for telling us about that.....
