ONT backup battery

I do not want to replace my ONT battery.  I have no need for several hours of battery backup.   Is there a way to get around having battery backup?  Thank you.

Yes, do not put a battery in the unit. This will allow the ONT to receive power but in the event of a power failure the battery backup unit will not come on. The battery only backs up the voice line for up to 8 hours of talk time.

Already been answered but yes just disconnect the battery from the terminals.

Some older backup units require a battery to be present to power the ONT. I had one from 2008 that went bad after a power outage. They just replaced it.

VERIZON - ARE YOU LISTENING?

Who was the engineer that designed a system that only lasts 6 months?  Did you think I like to change internet providers every 6 months? Thats the only reason I can imagine you would be that stupid.

The backup ONT battery was designed for phone service to keep the line up in the event of a power outage.  After 6months - 1 year, the battery will begin to degrade and you will hear an alarm every minute wherever the ONT is mounted - typically the garage?

At that point you have 3 options:

1. Unplug the ONT, pull the door on the ONT, and unplug the battery.  Plug the ONT back in and no more alarm or battery

2.  Pay approx $40 so Verizon can send you a new battery

3.  Cancel your Verizon service

Any of the above options will make the alarm stop.

VERIZON- also if you happen to notice the angst in this reply, that may also have something to do with the fact that it took about 10 minutes to login to this page because you require a completely separate account for Verizon Forums, you indicate that my Verizon account will work but it does not.

I have had my system for 7+ years. Never had to change my battery.

And you can find a replacement battery at a bttery store (or online) for maybe half the price you can get it from Verizon.

Or if you don't care, take the battery out all together. Especially if you don't ahve phone service or are ok with cell in times of power outage.
