Problems with FIOS remote control

My Verizon FIOS remote works to turn the TV box on and off, and the volume and mute buttons work.  Everything else is not responding, such as the channels or the guide.  We cannot change channels at all, either by trying the guide, or using the up/down channel buttons!  I tried alternate batteries, but nothing changed.

Suggestions?

What model remote do you have?

If it is the 4 button remote, have you tried hitting the STB button first?
