I have a harmon kardon SB16 sound bar, connected via fiber to my Sony W850B TV. I just got the new 6 show dvr, connected to the tv via hdmi. My Roku and BluRay play sound just fine, but the Verizon box gives me nothing. All cables are known working. I've swapped all cables (known working to the Verizon box and vice versa) and nothing changes. The things that work still work, and the Verizon box does not.
Any help?
Thanks!
One troubleshooting suggestion. Connect the DVR directly to the soundbar, whether via optical or HDMI, and see if it outputs sound. Just to make sure it works at all. Good luck.
Another trouble shooting suggestion: can you get sound out of the TV's speakers when the DVR is the selected input? This will confirm if the TV is getting audio over HDMI.
Good Luck.
Do you see light coming from the optical output on the box? Just to rule out an issue with the box itself.
As mentioned already make sure the optical cable is going from the box to the soundbar directly otherwise the only audio you will get is to your tv.
Also, make sure you go into the audio settings on the vms in the menu and set it to surround.
Direct connection from DVR to sound bar does not work. There is a light coming out of the optical connector. Connected directly to the soundbar via rca works (no hdmi on the bar), but the sound quality is terrible. Sound from hdmi to tv works. We tried pretty much every permuation of cabling and setting to get it to work. I was just hoping the community may have a solution.
Im having the same problem has anyone figured this out yet? Thanks
May be the case that the bar will not accept dolby digital. If so you will have to find the menu (hidden variously on some models) and set to PCM only.
Arris Quantum boxes. Turn on, hold d about 5 seconds and release, user settings, additional hdmi settings, audio output, left or right to l-pcm
Older ARRIS (formerly Motorola) box. From on, turn off at box, then hit ok, and then menu on remote (somewhat time sensitive). The rest is similar to above, but I don't have a box to check on at my FL home.
I am having the same problem with my new Media Server DVR unit. My DR is connected to the TV with HDMI and the TV is connected to the soundbar with an Optical cable. My DVD player is also connected to the TV by HDMI.
I get sound from the soundbar from the DVD player but not from the new Media Server DVR. (FYI - My old verizon DVR box works with the soundbar using the same connections).
Verizon told me to use the same suggestion as above by holding the 'D' or 'B' key on the remote to access the DVR menu. I set the HDMI output as directed and still no sound from the Samsung soundbar.
Any other Ideas?
