I assume when you say main TV tuner, you mean the VMS?
One thing to do is to set the other boxes to auto turn off or turn them off when done watching.
That frees up those tuners to be used.

There isn't really a tuner priority. There are 6 tuners numbered 1 thru 6. Tuners 1 and 2 are for the vms. As ipc's are turned on the are connected in desending order starting with 6. This assumes all the boxes are on different channels. If 3 boxes are on the same channel they all are on the tuner that origanal tuned the channel. So if you have 5 cable boxes and all of them are on the same channel there is only one tuner in use and 5 others to record. So the VMS takes tuners in as ascending order or the next free tuner. If all the tuners are in use you will get a recording confilct. If you see this happening alot, you may want to pay the extra 10 bucks and switch one IPC for another VMS.
