I have a HD QIP 7100 1 STB.

1st Question

Are the any known issues with this model? I'm being told that both of my boxes are producing a high pitch sound which I cant really hear.

2nd Question.

If I request to get them updated si ce they are over 9 yrs old.  Do newer models have the front display as my current one has?

They do have a 7100 p2 and its smaller, all black,and no high pitch sound but no display. They have vms and ip clients but you have to upgrade to enhanced dvr. Ask for a 7100p2.

Not sure that you would get these days as all the 7xxx models are now old.  None of the non-dvr should produce high pitch sounds, but obviously a failing STB could.  A dvr's disk can sometime be heard.
