I have the Motorola HD/DVR QIP 6416-2, but have a standard definition CRT TV attached to it.
I am considering getting a new Samsung LED HD TV but I am hesitating for several reasons
- Is there any reason I would need Verizon's help to install this TV? Is it just a matter of connecting the HDMI cable to the HDMI jack on the 6416 (I assume there is such a jack?)
- I have read in this forum that people were having trouble with STBs and Samsung HD TVs connected via HDMI. Have these issues been resolved? By the way, I don't consider the issue resolved if I can't use an HDMI connection and instead have to use the component video connection.
- I hesitate to make any change to the system since while I am not thrilled with it, it does work. My interactions a year ago with tech support were very bad.
Thanks

Just bought a Samsung 40" LED a few days ago. Works fine with both my 6xxx and 7xxx STBs, no HDMI problems.

Thanks for the reply.
Did you need to contact Verizon at all or did you install this on your own?

Nope, just need to plug it in and connect an HDMI cable from the STB to the TV. That's it...

I bought the Samsung LED 46" TV a few weeks back and have been pleased with it. I've heard some folks that have had issues with the HDMI handshake and need to use component cables. I also have IMG release 1.7. and use the HDMI cable without an issue except maybe once a week I will get a blank screen for about 1-2 seconds. Doesn't happen all that often. Honestly I think it occurs when the DVR stops recording but I could be wrong.

You dont need to contact Verizon. Its just plug in and go.
As for Samsung. The one issue that was specific to Samsung was isolated to the 2006-2008 model years. The new models dont have the issue so I would feel comfortable in purchasing a Samsung.
The other HDMI issues that are going on are not name brand specific and are rather random. Seems that update 1.7 seems to have taken care of most issues. Not all of course but most. So the chances are that you would be OK with whatever you decide on getting
Now IMO, I wouldnt hesitate to get the Samsung. I think those Samsung LED tv's have the best pic of any tv out there.

If this new TV is a large purchase for you, you might want to research it on the AVS LCD HDTV forum.
On that forum, you can find discussion and comparisons, as well as "owners threads" devoted to many models with known issues and recommended settings. Do some reading before you post.

Thanks for all the replies. I am concerned about the problems with HDMI in general and with Samsung in particular. It sounds like 1.7 may have resolved the issue. I need to check this again, but I seem to recall that SOME LCD TVs don't have component video inputs, so that would be a problem if HDMI is not usable.

The Samsung LED TV I have does have the component connections. I think most TV's have them.
