Hi,
I'm currently switching completely over to TiVO. I have the cablecard in hand, and intend on getting rid of the STB and DVR I have. Based on a conversation with the online support folks, Verizon apparently requires you keep on STB on your bill?
Basically, I really don't want to pay ~$11/m for a giant paperweight. Can I return both boxes and just stick with the Cable Card?
Thanks!

You do not need to keep paying for the cable boxes. Just return them and they will come off your bill.

Awesome, thanks!
In all the time I've been with Verizon (since August, 2010), I have never used one of their STB's. I have been CableCARD from day one, without any problem.
My suspicion, is that the agent was assuming that you would want their on-demand service, or Pay Per View, or program guides. Those of us without an STB can't use those services. In my opinion, it's a small sacrifice to have more control over the equipment I choose to run.
Absolutely make sure you get receipts for your returns. And then check your bills. I have never had Verizon lose track of a returned box, but others have. I have had them forget to remove them from the bill, but had no trouble in contacting them and getting them to remove it. But again others have had them keep screwing up and having them show up on later bills.
I did the same thing about 3 months ago and I'm very happy with Tivo. I purchased the lifetime subscriptions for my Roamio and 2 minis so I now own those as opposed to renting Verizon Equipment. My bill was lowered significantly and the interface on the Roamio is great. I'm confidient you will be happy with it!
