Is Verizon going to get TCM in HD?
As has been discussed here numerous times previously, the TCM-HD channel does not present any of their programming in HD. (Although they do in France, believe it or not). No word as to whether TCM will ever offer films in HD here in the U.S.
But you can see classic films in True 1080i HD on other channels...including HDNet Movies. Saw beautiful prints of LAWRENCE OF ARABIA, HIGH NOON, and ON THE WATERFRONT on the channel recently...all looking much better than they would on the TCM-HD channel. Heck, I even rented a Blu-Ray of THE LTTLE RASCALS and it was in 3D no less! So, as much as I love the TCM programming, if they won't offer HD, we don't need their pseudo HD channel, IMHO.
I DO want their "pseudo HD" channel. If you have seen it on EVERY OTHER CABLE AND SATELLITE SERVICE IN THE FREE WORLD, you would note that the picture quality is infinitely better than what we're getting on Fios, and letterboxed movies show correctly on widescreen TVs.
Well, if the rumors are true (around 40 new HD channels during second-quarter), then it's always possible thar TCM-PseudoHD might be one of them! Guess we'll have to wait and see.
TCM HD has existed since 2009 and since then many people have requested that it be added to the FIOS line up. It is available on most every cable provider including Cablevision, Time Warner, and Comcast but still not available on FIOS.
When you call to ask Verizon about this you are told its in the cue to be added or to suggest it online or whatever. They just never add it. They have added Al Jazeera America HD . How many people asked for that? Why does Verizon FIOS ignore us classic movie fans.
It is no longer true that TCM HD does not offer movies in True HD. Some films are indeed in HD. In any case all films look significantly better on the HD channal especially wide screen films. There is no reason why this channel in HD should not be added.
Now that Verizon has dropped the Weather Channel and saved all that money perhaps they will consider adding TCM HD to their line up. It seems lately the only messages I got is that Verizon is dropping services or moving them to a more expensive package. It seems now that Verizon is the only major provider without TCM HD and the Weather Channel.
Just want to add my voice to this. I was watching a movie on TCM earlier and it was letterboxed, which is frustrating. Is there a Verizon email address to send the request to?

No point. TCM shows movie in their proper aspect ratio. And a widescreen movie would still be letterboxed on their HD channel. Now, if you had seen a widescreen movie that WASN'T letterboxed, then you'd have reason to be upset.
