TV remote use with digital adapter and no set top box

Is there a way to eliminate the many blank channels that I do not subscribe to using only a digital/non-HD adapter (no Set Top Box) for a TV? Having to scroll through so many blank channels and no guide is annoying and time consuming. If not, will an HD adapter for the TV offer more options with the remote such as this one or does it require a STB?

SD adapter has no real capabilities for programming.

And I don't believe there is a HD adapter.

With an stb, you can program favorites that would allow you to only have channels you desire.

And HD stb is probably only a few dollars more than what you pay for SD adapter
