The Weather Channel, it has a town 50 miles away. Is there a way to have it show a city closer?

Your local weather is on channel 49 - Weatherscan.  TWC is the national feed.

No, I agree with the original OP, I live right ouside Philly and on channel 49 they are giving me the "LOCAL" weather for Atantic  City, Trenton and Dover Delaware, and Dover and AC are both more than 80 miles from me.  NOT exactly Local!!! I don't know if they've gone on the cheap but I could care less about the weather in both those places.

Well my town's weather (30 miles from the city) is in the rotation of channel 49 Weather Scan.  You'll need to call your local verizon central office and ask for your area to be added.
