We recently got fios tv with a dvr. We are having two issues we can't seem to clear up. Here they are:
1. When we schedule a program to be recorded the dvr continually records two or more of the exact same program, same channel.
2. The dvr seems to lock up or freeze the screen when searching for programs. Nothing we do with the remote will free the locked up condition. The only way we can clear the lockup is to unplug the dvr, wait 10 seconds, plug back in and then wait for the dvr to cycle through the startup process which is very irritating. Can someone tell us how to fix the problems?
What model DVR?
What options do you have selected for a series?
If you choose anytime, any channel, it will record multiple copies unless you have allow duplicates set to no.
Under settings the episodes to record is set to first run and repeats.
Default channels set to scheduled channel
Record duplicates set to NO.
Model of DVR is ARRIS, VMS1100.
Hope this helps.
Is it recording two versions of the exact same show?
For example:
On channels like Discovery, they will show a new episode at 8 and then repeat at 11.
Does it get bopth of those?
Or does it record 2 episodes of the same show?
Let's say we are recording Dr. Phil at 3PM on channel 2 and he is only on once that day at 3PM.
When we go to dvr recordings to play back there will be 2 shows showing and both are the exact same show that was on at 3PM.
Do you happen to have 2 DVRs?
Does this happen on all shows or just the one?
Does it happen if you hit record vs on a scheduled recording?
We only have one DVR.
The double recording happens on more than one show.
It seems that the double recording happens only on scheduled recordings.
Later today I am going to take a screen shot of what we see when we open the recordings window. Maybe that will help.
Some shows are incorrectly indicated in the guide. This is a problem with the information supplied to Verizon by Gracenote (previously called Tribune Media Services). This will cause some shows to get duplicated. What are some of the programs you are seeing this with?
And sometimes you see two recordings but one is the first part of the show and the other is the remainder of the show. This is normally caused by EAS or occasionally by power failures in your area.
Here are 5 shows that come up with duplicates almost every day.
Dr. Phil, Channel 2, Days of Our Lives channel 4, General Hospital channel 7, Steve Wilcos channel 5 and Nancy Grace on HLN channel 101.
We do have some random shows that come up with duplicates but the above are the worst.
Also, we are aware of the power problems etc. that would cause a show to be split into two parts. None of the above are doing this.
Is one in HD and the other in SD? I.e. is it recording say channel 2 AND channel 502?
