I go away for a few days and when I return Current TV has vanished from the lineup! What? It's not even dead yet. I do hope you plan on carrying AlJazeera America. There are many of us who would like to get the news in FACT form and not slanted propaganda. What is everyone afraid of? Not carrying it is censorship! If there are people who don't want to watch it, then they can watch Fox or some other slanted news channel. What will progressives do to get their news?? I was so proud of Fios for actually carrying Current in the first place when so many were afraid to. Without Current, there is no progressive format. Would you be getting freespeech tv like Dish has? Now I am forced to use youtube as my news source and I am paying way too much for cable for that. This is terrible! What are you going to do?
Its still on here in FL. But it was suppose to go away this month.
That's a rough first post, Yogi.
First off, Current is still on as far as I can see. Channel 192.
Secondly, a private company discontinuing a channel is not censorship. They are free to offer what ever they wish and we are free to change providers if we don't like it.
Finally, I agree with you that balance is good. Although I lean to the right I do watch the left leaning channels such as MSNBC, NBC, CBS, ABC, CNN, etc. I hope VZ keeps Current/Aljazeera.
Channel 1750 is al jazeera america. Check to see if it appears on your guide. The channel is right after some religious spanish channels and right before some channels from asia. It will be relocated to that international area on the guide which is a dumb move because the channel will exist solely to offer competiton to what is out there right now which is sadly what people have grown accustomed to think that journalism is but it is not. When people who claim to be "journalists" are more interested in promoting themselves and their books while also seeking to sell you products from their websites while they go on tours around the country entertaining audiences rather than seeking to inform the public about what is going on in the world without making it all about their own personal financial gain that could be had while also seeking to drive a wedge between people that tells you all you need to know about how some in the media have no interest in doing what a free press is supposed to do where they are all about enriching themselves. Al jazeera english already exists at channel 481 in my area and if you were to look at your set top box in the message area you will see that it indicates that on august 1 that change would be made. Al jazeera america and al jazeera english are not to be confused with al jazeera arabic which is the channel that is often referred to as anti-american although i have never seen al jazeera arabic to confirm this. The new al jazeera america network will be a 24/7 live news channel which is something that cnn used to be before they hired jeff zucker who has now turned that channel into a tabloid type network. The channel will have soledad o'brien and some other familiar faces who will be doing hard hitting investigative news reporting which is much more interesting to the public rather than who the latest celebrity is to have a baby.
1750 not on here in FL. 192 is still on as Current TV. Wikipedia list the switch over as Aug 20.

It is moving to channel 1750. If it hasn't moved in your VHO yet it will soon.
Check messages on the STB. I am not home but saw a note on my STB this morning about a bunch of changes coming up and this was one of them.
Current was not doing that well and sold itself to the highest bidder. That was Al Jazeera Media Network. They have kept some of the people who worked for Current.

I'm not free to change providers for about nine months or so, unless I want to pay a penalty fee. It would have been sooner, but I changed my bundle details, reducing the number of tv channels and increasing internet speed, and Verizon reset my 2 year agreement from the date of the change. Funny how the agreement term isn't eliminated or reduced when Verizon, on its own, without consulting me, chooses to cut or change the tv channels it provides to me.
