Will Onkyo 1080p AR resolve the HDMI "handshake" problems?

Question, I'm plan to upgrade my audio receiver and thinking of going to a 1080p upconversion such as an Onkyo SR806.  This requires a set up of the HD DVR (Motorola 6416-2) with HDMI to the receiver and HDMI to the Samsung LCD.  Will that cure the "handshake" issues with this box?

The signal loss problem is on going and I've tried component cable but there is a loss of PQ.  Component cable is an alternative but not a fix.  Forum research shows this problem has existed for a while.

It could fix it.  I havn't heard of any hdmi issues with audio equipment, only televisions.

Not that I have had any sync issues with my TV in the first place (VIZIO, not Samsung), but I can say 100% that I have not seen any handshake issues while using the Onkyo SR706 or SR806 other than the ~5-10 second sync the first time the box is powered on.

I have a SR 875 with a QP6416.

Things you will want to watch out for:

1.  If the video formats come out as native, and the receiver is set to upconvert, then you may notice some lag when changing channels.

2.  Audio hiccups in the feed cause the receiver to freak out for a few seconds causing missed dialog.  On my old cheap receiver with no special processing, the audio hiccups were nearly unnoticeable.

3.  If you have strange issues with the handshaking, you could try buying a $30 HDMI Switcher and just leaving it inbetween the two devices.  I have found this helps my PC from losing that a second monitor is connected when the receiver is turned off.

Thanks for the input.  I was going to purchase a receiver primarily for the audio upgrade such as a Yamaha 663.  There are some dolby digital issues with the current Yamaha (DT) when playing Blue-ray movies on the PS3.  A couple of the flicks will not convert to 5.1.  Thus it's time for an upgrade and add to speakers.

Is the 1080P upconversion (or upscaling) really worth it? When I have the FIOS signal it's great (720p or 1080i).  However if this receiver can cure the "handshake" signal loss problem, enhance the PQ and provide 7.1, I'm in.

btw, my current fix is an on/off foot switch that reboots the box.  It beats reaching & bending behind the equipment.

I dont think upconversion is everything people make it out to be. But I do have a Onkyo 7.1 system myself. I upgraded from a sony one. The sony one would not play some audio codecs even from a blu-ray movie. but my Onkyo  has never had any issues with the audio codes at all. I has played every one I have tossed at it. You should be happy when you get it.
