Is it possible to connect a dvr directly to the router with an ethernet cable and not use the standard coax connection ?

... and the TV channels are delivered in QAM format, not as IP streaming content. The TV signal must come over coax and there must be a path from the STB to the ONT over that coax. In addition, there must be a coax path between the STB and the router as well (this allows the STB to use MoCA to talk to the internet side of your router to get the guide data, etc.)

So i have a box that terminates the fiber line and one coax that runs from it to the router and then tv. if you cant connect from the router to a new box then do you use the ethernet connetion on the terminating fiber box to a new DVR set top box? At a lose when they say you can have multiple rooms but only one connector, so how do they do it?

You connect another STB by using the same coax line that connects to the router and first STB with a splitter to the new STB.
