have an old "tube" t v that is hooked up to verizon box to allow digital to be played on analog tv.

I want to replace it with 27" lcd Magnavox.  Can I hook it up via dvd and the dvd to the box converter "not the actual Verizon box that is in the living room.

Not quite sure how you are planning to hook this up. You can go from the digital converter to the composite (yellow and white) Jack's on the Magnavox TV, then hook the DVD player to another input on the TV, but I dont know of any DVD player that has video passthrough capabilities.
