no set top box needed with samsung smart tv

I have gotten different information every time I call verizon. I tried to research it myself and I cant get an answer. I was told I dont need the set top box to watch local chanels if I have a samsung smart tv. The verizon representative told me to get the fios app on the tv and Ill be all set. My tv doesnt have it. I called Samsung and they say they cant help me. Is this even true? Do I need the set top box or not?

You can use a TV with a qam tuner to view only local channels.

For anything else you will either need a STB or cable card device.

There used to be a Samsung APP. Not sure if it exists or is supported.
