to verizon cable tv- your ad is miss leading I pay for so many channels i donot want but needed to get the channels I am interested in. I really thought that you were going to give the customer a true choice, but again I was sadly disappointed.

I DEFINATELY DO NOT WANT MUSLIM CHANNELS,

I DONOT SPEAK SPANISH,

I DONOT USE THE MUSIC CHANNELS,-I HAVE A STEREO SYSTEM.

AND THERE ARE OTHERS THAT i FIND INAPPROPRIATE, AND

INCONFLICT WITH MY CHRISTIAN LIFE STYLE.

The cable companies would love to give customers more choice.

But it is as much (or maybe more) a function of content providers.

Just look at the fact that Verizon gives some choice and they are threatened by several large content providers.

True "ala carte" won't be happening any time soon.  If it does happen, I don't expect our bills to go down.  All of the parties involved are very good at figuring out how much we will pay and structuring their plans to maximize corporate revenue.

The only real way to deal with this is to opt out of cable TV subscriptions all together.  Free broadcast TV still exists and has lots of good content.  Build your own DVR using MythTV or similar, and you can save lots of money.  Sure, you won't have as much content available as a cable subscription, but your costs will go down.  You can supplement over the air TV with some content over the Internet from Netflix, Amazon and other streaming providers, but you won't be able to find every channel that we get on cable.  That may be good or bad depending on what content you want.

If you just have to have certain channels that can't be obtained over the air or on the Internet, you'll need to stay with a cable provider.  You can use a favorite channels list to control what channels are listed on the guide.  That way you can have a list of channels that meets with your values and not have to see any "bad" channels.

Enjoy.

And as a side note: For now, Netflix, Amazon, Hulu, etc are all just supplemental income tot he content providers.

If a significant amount of users drop cable and go with streaming services, the content providers will need to increase their fees to make up for the loss of income.

First of all, there will soon (under 20 years) be more speakers of Spanish than speakers of English in this country, so you'd better start learning Spanish now.

Secondly, if you truly had a "Christian lifestyle", you would not even own a TV, much less purchase cable. WWJD!

I speak Spanish myself but never use it with those who choose to ignore English.  And yes, I would LOVE to be able to have a plan without any Spanish or Sports channels. Unfortunately, no such plaan exists.
