They better be turned on by tommrrow or else i wont be too happy!!
They do the same thing with MLB. I can't say what they did with the NHL because I had just gotten the service installed when the season was beginning and when I went to view them it said my box was incompatible with those HD channels. Sad part was I was going to sub CI last season so they lost all $50 from me for that since I wasn't rushing to a Verizon store to change the box out that day.
They wont be turning on the HD channels for preview. They only do SD. Even hockey.
Their marketing doesn't really make sense since HD channels would make more people want to subscribe imo. Only thing I can think of is its what the network and verizon negotiated and agreed on to be the least cost effective for them in order to provide a preview. I think we should feel lucky we even get a free preview at all.
But if a person is subsribed to those channels they have to be turned on anyway, What does it hurt to turn them on for everybody? I didnt subsribe this year for the nba league pass, but the last 3 years i had with verizon and i always have to call and ask them to turn on the HD channels AND put the guide information for the games ,its as is if they dont know or care enough about the season sports packages. Its gotten to the point where i'll probably leave for directv, with them i never had that problem! they always turn on the nba league pass channels and have guide information from day 1 starting with PRE-SEASON GAMES and continuing through the regular season.
This is because Verizon is in the process if replacing lots of boxes for people to see subscribed channels that are being converted to MPEG-4. If someone is subscribed to the package and can't see the HD channels, they will swap out the box. Verizon doesn't want to swap out boxes at this point for people to see a two week preview and nothing else. I was kind of bummed that I couldn't see the HD channels in the NHL package, but if I wanted them that bad, I would have subscribed.
On another note, I just bought an Apple TV unit, and I will never bother with buying a sports package of regular TV channels again. If I ever subscribe, I'll get the online version and watch it on Apple TV so I can get either teams' broadcasts in HD every day. The only exception is if a local team is involved, and I could only watch on my region's RSN.
