The ellipse has a SIM card can I make a phone call with it?

No.  The SIM is only used to identify the tablet with the network.,  The phone number assigned to the device is more like a device ID and less like a phone number.  You CAN make calls using the tablet with google Voice or Hangouts, Skype, etc... but NOT traditional calls from your actual phone number.

Thank you. That makes complete sense. Unfortunately my Verizon salesperson was not well informed.
