Ellipsis 8 w/out a SIM CARD

Our son was given an Elipsis 8 (wiped and factory reset) without a SIM CARD.

We were under the impression that this tablet can be used without a SIM CARD over WIFI.

It connects to WIFI, but will not do anything.  Just tells me to "turn on WIFI or DATA".

How do we fix this?

Is it connected to the wifi network correctly?

Thank you for contacting us about this issue. We want to make sure you can use your device. Does this happen to all Wi-Fi networks? Have you tried resetting the router? We can also try troubleshooting your tablet. Have you tried resetting your network settings?
