My Ellipsis 7 tablet is at Android version 4.2.2 and when I check for software updates I keep getting the message, cannot connect to server . I am connected via WiFi .
AFAIK the Ellipsis 7 won't update over wi-fi, it requires a network connection. An update to version 4.4.2 was released in Feb. 2015. The last update was 10/4/17 and was a security update. Since the Ellipsis 7 is almost five years old, it likely won't receive further updates.

My tablet was connected to my Verizon account previously and I'm unable to update it any longer. Is there a way to force an update?
The tablet is required to connect to the Verizon server to retrieve the update which means it needs to be on an active Verizon account and connected to the 4G LTE network. That's if there is an update available.
