The small icons that show up on the top in a row:
How do you get rid of them ?
Are they on the left or the right side of the bsr across the top? The left side icons are notification icons - swipe down and either deal with the notification, or hit the "Clear all" to make them go away. You can also turn off the app notifications per app so they won't show up.
As for the icons on the right side, those are battery, network, time, etc - indicators of the status of the tablet and which services are being used. I find them very useful; and I'm not sure if you can actually turn those off.
