Cannot send or receive email on iPhone when in china

Hi,
Been to China a couple of times and heading back soon. When I am there I cannot receive or send email on my Verizon account thru the iPhone. My work email comes thru fine.

My settings;
Pop.verizon.net using port 995
smtp.verizon.net using port 465
SSL is on
Any help would be appreciated
