Cannot send verizon.net emails from my Samsung Galaxy Avant

I have two email accounts on my phone, one verizon and one hotmail.  I have no issues sending and receiving emails with the hotmail account on my phone.  But with the verizon account, I can receive but cannot send emails with the phone.  I have no issues using the accounts on a PC.

I have reset the ingoing and outgoing settings (several times) as recommended by verizon with no luck.

I am tempted to delete the email account and set up anew, but do not want to do this unless necessary.

I took my phone to the T-Mobile store where I got it.  They rechecked the settings and confirm that they seem fine.

HELP!!
