Today received another Verizon email about changing email settings. Reference is made to Outlook Express, MS Outlook and Windows Live Mail. I use Thunderbird and attempted to use the new settings pop.verizon and smtp.verizon for receiving and sending. These settings do not work in Thunderbird. Using live chat was a was an exercise in frustration. Anyone using Thunderbird have success with these new settings?

@mechanics200 wrote:Thanks for the update. I checked the setting for outgoing and changing to the new settings is fine. The incoming server only shows the server name and port which can be changed. Under authentication method only encrypted password is shown no normal as in the outgoing server. Also on the incoming settings screen there is nothing for SSL enabled as is shown on the outgoing screen settings.
Unless you have an old version of Thunderbird that should not be the case. I'm using Version 17.06 and all settings are changeable.
For incoming server: The security and authentication method are changeable by clicking the down arrow on the method that is shown.
For outgoing servers: select the account you want to work with and click the Edit button. The popup window allows you to change everything.
Lots of us are using thunderbird and the new settings. Only problem I know of is you must be sure to set authentication method NORMAL PASSWORD. These and the previous settings also require setting SSL/TLS.

Yes. The new settings work with Thunderbird. Password authentication method must be set to normal for POP and SMTP.
If you have problems after rechecking all entries, check your firewall. Those ports may be blocked.

Vz keeps sending these instructions for email port settings, BUT they do not work with iOS devices--iPhones and iPads. Last go around with this I spent over 16 hours trying to reconcile until an Apple Expert discovered "special" instructions for iOS device settings. Get with the program, Verizon.
Also work with IOS devices. Must restart your device after changing.

The outgoing server settings are easily changed. I have version 17.0.6. For incoming settings connection options are NONE, STARTTLS, SSL/TSL.
Authentication options are:
Encrypted password, Password transmitted insecurely, Kerberos/GSSAPI, NTLM and TLS certificate. There is also a list of check boxes for check for messages, Auto download etc.
I found nothing else changeable. What am I missing?
Finally have the settings working. I kept missing changing to SSL/TLS first to bring up the Normal Password option for the incoming server. Thanks for your help.
What are the special Apple instructions? I notice Verizon lists only Outlook help instructions. I see nothing for iOS or Mac. Changeover fails on my Mac.
