How Do I respond to email from my cell phone if it is Ntelos

I think I have my cell set up now to receive emails from Verizon after many hours but still can not respond to an email. I am with Ntelos. To circumvent this I put Gmail smpt as my responding with smpt.gmail.com in the parameters and the rest of what gmail requires but it stilll will not send.

Evidently if you don't subscribe to Verizon cell phone service you are out of luck in sending emails from the expensive smart phone you have puchased. Be aware of this if you are giving a smart phone for Christmas.
