No emails on Mac desktop

I can receive emails on the verizon webmail site, (webmail.verizon.net), but when I click on the Mail icon on my iMac desktop, they will no longer download from the website. Can anyone help me with a suggestion?

My problem was solved by a tech support person. The problem was that my account was offline.
