Retreiving Verizon e-mail through Yahoo

I used to be able to do this, but after changing to the new POP and SMTP settings, I can longer get my Verizon e-mail through my Yahoo.com mail account. I triple checked the settings and finally deleted the V account from my Yahoo "accounts" list in frustration and then recreated it. Still no go. What am I missing?

I think I stumbled upon the answer. The only box I had not checked on the Yahoo Mail set-up page was "use filters."

I had thought this was an option I didn't need, but as a last resort I tried it, and:

When I added a filter to direct mail addressed to my verizon address to the named destination folder, it came flooding in.

The Yahoo page doesn't offer any clue that this is a required step, as there is a separate place to name a destination folder for non-Yahoo mail. Evidently, however, naming a destination folder alone is insufficient. Or at least it was in this case. This seems very odd because it suggests that Yahoo was finding the mail before, but wasn't putting it anywhere.

In any event, it now works. Thank you for your patience.

The simplest way to get Verizon email through a different email account is to forward it. It's easy to set up and you don't have to worry about POP settings.  If you want to distinguish Verizon email from other mail, create a folder in Yahoo mail, then create a filter to send it there.

The only drawback to this method is that you won't be able to send email from Verizon via your Yahoo account.  But if Yahoo is your primary email, that shouldn't be a big factor.

Thanks. This is "a" solution, but it's not the one I'm looking for,

Just tested and it appears to be working with my accounts. What error are you getting?

Make sure that in the Advanced settings section you have the boxes checked for Use SSL and Override default POP port. Make sure you are inputting 995 for the incoming port.

The settings are correct but Yahoo doesn't retreive any incoming Verizon messages.  There's no error message. It just doesn't work.

Do you have messages in your verizon.net mailbox? Do you have any other devices configured to pull mail from the Verizon server? If you send a test message to yourself, how far does it get?

Also, if we could see a screenshot of your settings (with your username and password obscured), that would be helpful in determining the issue.

Yes I have messages waiting@Verizon. How else would I know Yahoo is not getting them?

The Yahoo settings are pretty basic -- not much wiggle room:

Send and receive email from other email servicesSave
Account name:
Email address:
username@verizon.net
Default sending account
Receiving Mail
Username:
Password:
POP server:
Deliver email to:

Advanced settings:
  • Use SSL
  • Use Filters
  • Override default POP port
  • Retrieve new email only
  • Leave mail on POP server Help
Sending Mail

Sorry, when I cut-and-psted from the Yahoo screen, I didn't realize that this text window would strip out the entries.

But, as noted, the server settings are correct. SSL is checked, Override Default Pop Port is checked and set to 995 (it otherwise defaults to 110). The Yahoo Mail destination folder is a valid folder, and yes, I have configured multiple devices with the new Verizon server serttings and have sent and received mail between and among various accounts on all devices. I can even SEND Verizon mail FROM Yahoo mail. What I cannot do is RECEIVE Verizon mail through Yahoo Mail. Is this something anybody knows anything about?
