Retrieving email on android smartphone

I have not been able to receive my verizon email on my android for the past two days. Settings are correct but I get an alert message when checking them that states "Unable to connect to email server to verify your account information. No response from server." I'm using pop.verizon.net, port 995, and SSL security. I've rebooted my phone without sucess. I've deleted the account and receive the same message when trying to setup the incoming server. Anyone have any thoughts?

You are in the US?

If you use the verizon email app you definitely should have no problem.  Other emails "should" work as well.
