Verizon/AOL email password no longer recognized

I'm on a Mac, using Mail app.

Since late yesterday, my Mac complains it cannot open my email account. I enter my password, it is rejected every time.  When I go to the AOL website I can see the email piling up there.

I tried setting up a new email account on the Mac for AOL and then it rejected my AOL password!!! @#$#$%^$%^&%^&*%^&*#$%@#$%#$%^$%^

AOL will not provide any support unless I become a paying user.
