We have tried to continue a Verizon email account on new computer with Windows 8.
Is it true that Windows 8 will not allow this?
It is true that the default email client for Windows 8 does not support POP3. It is also true that this does not apply to webmail or any other email client you may choose to install.

Somegirl's info is correct. However, using a free hotmail account (now outlook) it is easy to get around that limitation.
Create a Verizon folder in outlook. Rule is that if the address contains "verizon" message will go to that folder.
In Verizon mail, forward all messages to hotmail.
I now use WIN8 email client and Verizon mail comes to it, in the Verizon folder. An added bonus is that I get mail instantly without being logged in to Verizon.
