Install Avast from http://www.avast.com/en-us/index Sorry but I am a fan of this software and have relied on it for years.
Then schedule a boot scan to see what Norton may have missed. The boot scan you schedule to run on next start, so it scans before the OS loads. I have found a few things that Norton has missed.
Also there is a very good free anti malware program called malwarebytes. Best run in safe mode for the first time, if you have something that may have taken over your PC. But you will need to install it and it may want to run from the start. Let it, and then recheck your PC in safe mode.
Not from someone you know and trust. DON"T OPEN OR SAVE IT. And make sure its really from that person, particularly if its not from a person. Lots of dangerous SPAM out there pretending to be your Bank or favorite store.
Norton can't check for everything, nor any of the others such as Avast.
