e-mail retention

After the two internet outages last week , my Verizon e-mail no longer stores read but undeleted messages.  This is most inconvenient because I frequently need to refer to them.  I've gone through "My Account" and Message storage and can't find anything that has been changed.  What can I do?

Sorry for the problems with your email retention. Have you setup your email account using a email client program such as Outlook, Thunderbird, Mac Mail, Windows Live mail, etc? Have you also setup your email on another internet device such as a tablet, smartphone, etc? Have you accessed your email from a different computer other than your own recently as well?
