exporting contacts

How in the sweet fancy Moses does one EXPORT contacts out of verizon?  I was talked into getting verizon wireless home service which meant I had to give up my Verizon email and get a Gmail account which I hate..  All I want to do is export my contacts and even verizon support didn't know how to do that.

There's no simple way to do it. You can copy/paste them into a spreadsheet and save as .csv for import, but there's no direct export function.

Verizon does not want you to leave, so they make it difficult to do so.
