why are the email messages i forward broken up into several  lines with <<< in between?

As a test I just Forwarded a VZ Email from my VZ Inbox to my gmail.

There were no additional break lines added to any parts of the message

Do you have your own gmail acct and could you try what I did and see what results you get ?

I also just did the same with my Aol Email.

No additional lines were added.
